This illustration was created for Hopfully Brewing Co as part of a group exhibition with Illustrators Ireland, showcasing packaging-inspired artwork by leading Irish illustrators.
A Strawboy for the Illustrators Ireland x Hopfully Brewing beer label exhibition that took place at Luckys in Dublin in September 2023.
Strawboys, also known “Mummers,” are a colourful feature of traditional Irish rural culture, particularly in parts of the West. They are often associated with celebratory events and rituals, such as weddings and harvest festivals. With their elaborate, homemade costumes, Strawboys traditionally arrive unannounced at celebrations, catching guests by surprise and entertaining the room with song, dance and playful skits.
