My illustration Memory Box, created for the Reverie exhibition at McGing’s in Westport, is part of a collection exploring themes of daydreaming and imagination. This Reverie exhibition illustration by Lydia Hughes was exhibited as part of Westival 2024, alongside small works from artists across Ireland.
My contribution to the Reverie exhibition was a giclée print on archival paper, inspired by the idea of a musical memory box — a symbol of nostalgia, secrecy, and curiosity. I wanted to create an illustration that would evoke a sense of wonder and quiet reflection, encouraging the viewer to imagine stories hidden inside.
The illustration combines bold shapes with delicate details, using soft, muted colours to create a dreamlike quality. The process involved balancing graphic simplicity with subtle textures and small decorative elements, aiming to make the piece feel both playful and contemplative.
